The Event

Chano Pozo, Havana-NewYork has been organized to pay a well deserved and required tribute to Chano Pozo. A recognition already initiated with “The sad night of Chano Pozo”, which Leonardo Padura and Ajubel take as a starting point.
These two artists are making a contribution by giving “the drummer of Cuba” as he was known, the place he deserves in the History of Music, in a joint venue of artistic disciplines: visual arts, literature and music.

Artworks by Ajubel for “The sad night of Chano Pozo”, texts by Padura along with the use of technology will all come together in a major exhibition that will travel from Havana to NewYork.

Within the framework of this event there will be tribute concerts with leading jazz figures from both sides.

This program includes other activities such as educational workshops, seminars and professional meeting sessions involving music, literature, education and culture.

Exhibitions

Ajubel´s large format works of art illustrating. Padura´s brilliant story integrate this exhibition.
Structured in seven “visitable scenes” and acclimated with sophisticated stage lighting and visual and sound effects, create a suggestive tour that takes us into the controversial life of Chano Pozo.

Concerts

The most prominent jazz musicians on the international scene will come together to perform an exciting musical tribute to Chano Pozo.
Havana and NewYork will host the venues of these two historic concerts, out of which a double album will be recorded.

Other activities

In addition to Ajubel and Padura´s exhibition and the great jazzists concert, which will be recorded live in a double album, the agenda includes more activities such as: additional concerts with great musicians from both cities, a short documentary film, educational workshops, seminars and meetings for professionals involved in the world of music, literature, education and culture.
